A proposed settlement fully resolves a class action lawsuit against the Colgate-Palmolive Company. The suit alleged that Colgate liquid hand soap products containing the antibacterial component triclosan, which were sold since 1/1/92, were mislabeled. The settlement eliminates the need for a protracted lawsuit and its concomitant risks and costs. It also frees Colgate from any liability. It’s worth mentioning that although the defendant, Colgate, accepts the settlement, they maintain they did nothing wrong. Both Colgate and the Settlement Class believe they would emerge victorious were the case to go to trial.

• Cutoff date for objections was 8/4/2015
• Final approval hearing on 9/128/15
• Class Members include anyone who bought the Colgate product from 1/1/92 until date of notice
• As part of the settlement, Colgate will adjust their product’s labeling
• Triclosan is no longer used in Colgate’s product

Class Members do have certain legal rights regarding this settlement. Any member of the class (anyone who purchased the product from 1/1/92) had the option to object to the settlement and voice their objections via written correspondence to the court. However, the cutoff date was 8/4/15. However, Class Members can request a hearing where they can speak directly with the court about the merits of the settlement.
